Monika Diaz's Report
Three Antelope teenagers died and three others were seriously injured after their car crossed into oncoming traffic and was hit another vehicle in Placer County Friday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP Officer Kelly Baraga said the car carrying five teens was speeding and swerving in and out of traffic when the accident happened just before 7:30 p.m. Friday on Auburn-Folsom Road just south of Horseshoe Bar Road in Loomis.
Baraga said the Mazda sedan was trailing another group in a Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound, with both cars cutting back and forth across the double-yellow center line into oncoming traffic. Witnesses said when the driver of the Jetta veered to avoid an oncoming car, the Mazda swerved out of control and was hit broadsided by an Isuzu Rodeo.
Two teenagers, a male and female both from Antelope, were pronounced dead at the scene, Baraga said. The male driver died shortly after 10:00 p.m. at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. Two others, including the driver's brother, were taken to Mercy San Juan and Sutter Roseville hospitals. The driver of the vehicle hit by the teens, Kerry Wilson, 59, of Newcastle was also taken to Mercy San Juan Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
CHP investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident and said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash. The identities of the victims have not been released.
