Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

05' RS lack of pickup until 3k RPM

Anyone else notice the RS doesn't really go until 3000? What is that exactly? Gearing? weight?

I think the flat four low end rpm range is better than most 4-cyls. My 05 RS seems to move out much better than my 02 WRX(under 3K rpm of course).

Is there any after market stuff on it? Headers and exhaust will take away your low end torque. Tossing a light weight flywheel on Subarus really make a fantastic ride and will fix that issue.

Nope, most probably the close loop region of the ecu map is for emissions.

If you have wideband a/f, eg Innovate LC-1 & XD-16, you will see close to 14.7a/f ratio. This makes the car feel dead and it there is pinging in that area, even worst.

My car falls on it face from 1900-2600rpm.

Yep, a complete one that replaces the ECU altogether.

That means that you will be looking over $1000USD

I'd also have to say it's the weight of the car that's bringing down the lack of pickup.
What's the impreza's curb weight at nowadays?

3000-3300 lbs.
Pretty heavy. That's the price we pay for 4wd drivetrain.
But on the other hand, you receive excellent traction.

It is not really the weight. Its how there program the ecu for emissions and power control when moving. That helps prolong the transmission too.

curb weight for the impreza is 2972. Which is only 172 lbs more then the 2800lbs 2003 corolla.
