I think it's the other way around Zoeb. I never knew about this one-sided bay area-L.A. rivalry until I moved up here. I actually thought San Francisco was a cool place to visit. I quickly discovered how very wrong I was. They should require a passport to visit the bay area, cause it's so not like anywhere else in America, and especially nothing like L.A., which is atrocious. Must be the dirty air they breathe up here, as well as their toxic water that everyone thinks is clean to drink.

Ummmmm, actually that's everywhere south of L.A., like San Diego, Palm Springs, etc. L.A.'s water comes from all those huge aqueducts on the I-5 and the Owen's Valley drainage basin, all hydrogeologists should know that!!! I almost took a job with the L.A. counties Engineering Geology division, had to know that stuff for the interview.

Yeah, and all that's there is Croger's. I'm sick of the cookie cutter girls east of the tunnel. I used to live in Lafayette, and these girls bored me to death. Girls in L.A. are actually good-looking and smart, and wow, interesting as well. It seems that girls here are either smart or good-looking, but never both. In NorCal, what is there? For the most part, NorCal is just open farmland, the barrenness of that expanse broken only by clusters of politicians. Yes, you have San Francisco, but that's basically where UC Berkeley is, and between the two of those places, you have more radicals than in the rest of western world.

What's up with all the protesting? I guess that when you have nothing else to do, and such gloomy mornings every day, you have to find some way to amuse yourself.

Unlike all the bay area people I met that had tons to say about L.A. and Angelenos, even though most of them haven't ever set foot in L.A. I'm not kidding you, I met a girl at a bar once that was very proud the fact that she had never gone west of the Caldecot Tunnel. Are you kidding me? Lived in LA for 4 years (west LA/Santa Monica border on SantaMonicaBlvd). And LA sucks. I've heard good things about SD, but if Southern Cali is being rep'd by LA, then NorCal kills it. People wise, mountain wise, beach wise, girl wise, car wise (especially for Subarus).

And on the rivalry, I had never heard of any rivalry between north and south until I went to UCLA, then all the sudden I was getting slammed for being from the north half of the state.

Never heard of this, so I can't comment on it occurring. All I can say is that I personally had no sense of the rivalry whenever I visited Norcal in the past, and nobody I knew in L.A. ever had anything to say about it (except for the part about not going to CAL because of all the left-wingers).

But as far as Norcal "killing" L.A. , well, what can I say. Only people that have a certain, hmmm, panache can do well in a place like cutthroat L.A. And yes, Norcal has way more Subarus, because down in L.A., people buy Porsches when they are done with school, and quite a few get Ferraris.

Before SC was UCLA, and before UCLA was SC. And the Raiders leaving was a b.s. Al Davis stunt. He could care less where the team ends up. He'd go to N. Dakota if they paid for the team to move there. Note that no judgments were made about car brands; the mark was simply in referrence to the lower amount of Subaru owners in Socal in comparison to Norcal. If price was no object, people in general will buy brands that are more in accordance with their level of disposable income. And I did get why you thought that your comment was NOT out of context, hence the mentioning of Ayn Rand. sure there are more porsches and ferraris in socal thats cuz there are more people out there too. There are also more suv's, trucks, compacts, mid sizes, full sizes, and luxury cars in so cal also.

Quintessential bay area "argument"

Note the preponderance of Norcal stickers/apparel/etc.

Note how this is all practically non-existent in L.A. (Socal stickers, etc.)

Why state the obvious?

Those that beat their own drums have nothing to say and let the drumsticks speak for them. Those that have everything to say simply remain silent to let the unenlightened creatures believe that the pounding on their drums is actually meaningful, and only occasionally open their mouths to remind the drum-beaters where their place actually lies.

Forgot about CALTECH too.

Real mass transit in L.A.? Dude, only poor people in L.A. take mass transit; that's why it's the car capital of the world. I agree that the 24/7 carpool lanes thing is annoying, but the reason why they have it that way is to prevent people from using that lane as a momentary overtake-lane. So it's safer for people in the carpool lane to use. And besides, when it's no longer rush hour in L.A., there's tons of space with the average 5 lanes in each direction.

Good points. And don't forget the murder rate percapita is much lower in Socal than in the Bay Area.

p.s. what's up with Vegas being a NINE hour drive from here?

Forgot about CALTECH too.

Real mass transit in L.A.? Dude, only poor people in L.A. take mass transit; that's why it's the car capital of the world. I agree that the 24/7 carpool lanes thing is annoying, but the reason why they have it that way is to prevent people from using that lane as a momentary overtake-lane. So it's safer for people in the carpool lane to use. And besides, when it's no longer rush hour in L.A., there's tons of space with the average 5 lanes in each direction.

Hey I was in college. I was taking mass transportation when I could get it since it saved me the agony of being stuck in traffic, I could study a bit and I save some money. Why should they get better mass transit down in socal? Because it sucks being stuck in traffic at 8:00pm on Sunday or Saturday.. or friday.. or thursday.. or.... you get my drift. This especially goes for the gdamn 405/5 split. See I have forgotten what rush hour is since i live near 405 and commute everywhere other than work (Covina, Lifeplaza, City of Industry, etc) using 91, 605, 110, 705, 60, 5, and run into traffic somewhere.. you know about when traffic slows down and restarts in Norcal. You really don't in socal. 5 lanes really isn't enough here.

But the perk is, I work in Redondo and manhattan beach and hermosa beach are only a stones throw away. Torrance has an abundance of Japanese grocery stores and restaurants. There are good places to eat as well. hehe

First off, I'd like to say that I don't hate norcal. It's just that SoCal is better. :)

There are plenty more beaches than Santa Monica and Venice. There's Malibu, Manhattan, Hermosa, Seal, Redondo, Laguna, etc., and my personal favorite, Huntington. Come to Manhattan or Huntington on a summer day, and you'll never want to live anywhere else.

Ew. Of all the beaches in SoCal, you like Huntington? Gross. Huntington is dirty, and overly populated by white trash. I like Newport and Laguna, myself. In fact, I just went to the beach yesterday, laid out and read. It was so amazingly awesome.

Well, because there has not been much else that was worth posting about.

People, generally, regardless of where they live, exist in an isolated bubble, and believe that everything that they think is correct and that their society is the paramount one. Now certain societies go beyond this and further believe that their society is beyond reproach, and that they therefore have a responsibility to indoctrinate all their citizens about their "superior" mode of life. One such past society was Nazi Germany. One such current society is the Bay Area.

Yes, I would agree that this, generally, is what occurs on forums, usually over topics such as whether Honda owners are gay, or BOVs and CAIs are worthwhile and the like. However, this issue of Socal vs. Norcal is a very real one, and affects real life. An example is one that I discovered reading the East Bay Express. It turns out that Latinos in prison have a segregational system, labeling people from Socal as Surteņos, and Norcal people as Norteņos. Prison administrators eventually realized that they couldn't mix the two groups together because riots would occur. This example may seem to be unexpository, but is actually indicative of the behavioral patterns already mentioned that are generally prevalent. "Resentiment" is a very real issue, and anyone that has studied a certain portion of Modern philosophy shall know exactly what I am speaking of. Thus, making this specific topic worth discussing, because there was never any argument to win in the first place. Besides, the thread was supposed to be for Socal members to post about hating Norcal - it wasn't supposed to include Norcal-ers (who were "recruited" because of a certain someone's bay area invitation) who felt the need to beat on their drums.

p.s. people like me get paid to argue ;)
