Ive havent seen Luke@tirerack recommend anything wider than 235.

 

May not necessarily be the widest, but the most recommended is 17x7.5 or 8 with 225's.

 

I'm going 235 on my 17X7.5s next.

 

Subydude's car is running the 17x8 Torques w/ 245/40/17 Kumho MXs on the street (w/ a 1.5-2.0" drop all around) and has no problems w/ rubbing.

The 8" wide Torques w/ 245 rubber is a pretty tempting setup to run in auto-Xs.

someone in sqc is running 8.5" wide rims on his sti w/ no rubbing (forgot what tire size it was, maybe 245?)

 

I think you can run 17x9.0 with 245 or 255 if you're going all out..
