Wider tires for suby...how wide can I go?

I have a 97 Impreza Brighton Coupe 2.2L...bought used.

It's got steel wheels (15 X 6) with 195/60/15's on them.

I'm thinking 225/50/15's might squeeze in the wells?

I seem to be one of the few here w/o a newer model.

Help?

I don't think you will be able to get 225s on 6" wide rims. Check out the tire makers web sites & you will find the tire specs. showing the required rims widths.

I was more concerned with what would fit into the wheel wells.....

I assume I could replace the rims too....

What sized rubber clears the wells?

that's the same size as on my saturn, try 205/55's. They give a nice increase in width, and just run a little faster then the stock size.

you woudn't want the 225 size anyway, too much tire that's wider then the rim, the handeling would really suffer.
