Tire choice??

Does anyone have Goodyear Eagle F1's on a wrx/STI and if so how would you compare them over the potenza's? I was also thinking about the Pirelli P-zero nero's I'm currently running RE011's on 17" wheels and they seem like a good tire.

I have the Eagle F1 GS-D3s. You are not comparing apples to apples; the F1s are max performance summer tires, while the others you mention are multi-season or all-season tires. The Eagles are considered some of the best tires made and mine have lasted 20,000 miles with little sign of wear. However, the conditions that you will be driving them on (which you don't mention) are more important to your final tire choice than brand name or cost.

Like I said, the conditions matter in your choice. I didn't think the Pirellis were available in our size (just the M&S multiseason) but I haven't checked TireRack in ages. I have F1s and they are incredible tires with zero faults I have discovered for spirited street driving in HOT weather. However, I don't know what they would do in cold conditions, and I know they would be a nightmare on snow... My experience with the Pirellis (on an M3) is that they are very noisy and shed chunks from the inside after about 6 months, but they are still very good tires.

Well for the winter i use Nokian Hakkapeliitta's with my stock wheels (awsome setup for snow rally), but im looking for a weekend track racing tire. I know the F1's are great tires and im glad i finnaly got feedback from someone with a wrx. I think im gunna let the 011's wear themselves out and get w.e summer tire next spring. Thanks.

I have heard the F1 GSD3's don't like track days. They are awesome wet tires, and very decent dry tires. Some complain of the soft sidewalls.

I looked very hard at the F1's, but then found the Falken 451. Performance on par with the F1 GSD3 and stiffer sidewalls for better response. Also about $30 a tire cheaper. I don't track my car so can't speak much for their track performance. Mine are almost worn out now and I'll be getting either another set of 451's or the newer 452. I've been happy with these and got a good 15K out of them.

I've never gotten more than 20K from a set of tires.. I dunno how these guys do it. I think they must drive like my grandma

FWIW Mid-Ohio uses the F1s on the driving school TSXs and S2000s, I just did the course and thought the tires did extremely well both wet and dry.

Hmm.. I had heard reports that one track day would kill them as when they got warm they would wear extremely fast. Maybe they've changed them a bit.. or maybe the guy was some sort of drifto king

My falken rt-615's have two track days and about 7000 miles on them. They grip great, but its about time for a new set. My track days consist of about 2-3 hours of track time so they hold up pretty well.

*edit for spelling*

Sounds strange, because it was an extemely hot day, it poured, then dried off again and got hot. We were totally beating on the tires too, autox and time on the big track and we were driving pretty much all day. I didn't feel that they lost grip compared to when we started.

the pzero neros wont last as long as the F1's

i just put a set of F1's on my wrx (225/50/16) stock wheels and they are amazing tire, the soft sidewall is not really even an issue, as i am running 36/34 psi and have no feeling of significant steering lag. i can't wait for the rain in these tires but i got them when they were on special so bought + mount + balance for 500.

so far less than 500 miles on them so cant really offer too much input but they look sweet and to be honest with you i think wrapping large rubber bands around my wheels would have given me better performance than the re92's

i personally think the eagle f1's are a notch or two above falken tires in terms of quality and performance but its just my opinion. the f1's are held on the same level to the pilot sports and i just hold falken and toyo's to be in the cheaper realm of tires

A notch or two in performance, but more like four or five notches in price
