TE37s on an STI

I did a search and found that the 18inch TE37s with an offset of 48 would fit on an STI. When I went to put them on. What do you think happened? Of course the Brembo calipers were too big. So I got some 5mm spacers. Tried that, still didn't fit. So I just tried the other 5mm spacer together with the other one. Well that fit but their was maybe 4 threads left on the stud. I'm almost positive that a 7mm spacer would do it. But is their any reason without any doubt that I should not put the 7mm spacer on.? By the way these wheels are gunmetal and bad.

Midnightwrx,
Here are a few issues you may want to take into consideration:
- Effectively using a 7mm spacer with a +48mm offset nets you a +41mm offset versus the stock BBS wheels +53mm offset. This may or may not put undue stress on the bearings.
- I would consider going with longer studs for anything over a 5mm spacer. Even with a 7mm spacer you would still be grabbing only about half the amount of stud you normally would.
- Will the 7mm spacer give you enough wheel clearance? Brembo recommends a minimum of 3mm of clearance between the wheel and the caliper.
- What are the width of the wheel and the size of the tire you are considering? With the smaller offset and a wider wheel or tire, clearance on the inside of the fender may come into play.
I went through a similar experience when I ordered a set of 17x8 +48 5Zigen FN01R-C for my STi. I had heard they would fit without a problem. I even saw pictures of them on a STi on one of the Subaru sites. They would have been perfect for my winter setup. Simple design, nice looking, cheap ($164/wheel) and light (16.5 lbs./wheel). Unfortunately they would have required a 7mm spacer and in turn longer studs. I could barely grab any thread with my test 7mm spacer. This would have been fine if I didn’t plan on using my stock wheels, but I did. So the longer studs would have been an issue. I ended up sending them back and going with a different wheel that didn’t require spacers.
Good luck. The TE37 is a sweet looking rim.

midnightwrx,
Could you verify the width of the wheels for me. I'm assuming they are the 18x7.5 +48mm because that is the only 18" I see listed on the Rays site with a 5x100 bolt pattern. Over on this site:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=448097
(sorry about the cross link) Rick is trying to build a list of wheels that fit the STi. Currently he shows a 18x7.5 +43mm TE37 as fitting a STi. I don't see the 18x7.5 +43mm offset, that Rick lists as fitting, offered on the Rays site. If you can verify the width for me I'll let Rick know the don't fit.
Thanks,
Gary

The marks in the size table match BREMBO caliper of IMPREZA (GDB).

My 17 x 8 +44 fit over the Brembos, but the offset is too far out for the GC8 body. Had to roll the lips on the rear and the front's out 2mm. The 44 offset will fit the GDB STi without any problems. Rays told me there wasn't an 18" TE37 that would fit over the Brembos.
