Stretching Tire OEM STI BBS

Could you stretch a tire on a 04+STI? How would it look?
Does anyone have a picture?
Any input would be great.
Thanks.:sign0085:

Simply put, no. A tire would literally not fit on an STi. However, a tire would fit on a wheel.

Blazingbuda40 07-31-2013 01:54 PM

you could do it, but no real point seeing as the rim is only x7 or x7.5.

Why would you even want to commit such a crime?

i think he saw to many stretched tires at wekfest

mistaanime 07-31-2013 03:18 PM

lol...Stretching 7.5 .. what is that 185 45 17?

Su_Buru 07-31-2013 06:49 PM

Oh so you need a wide enough wheel to stretch the tire, got it.

04GG 07-31-2013 06:50 PM

This thread has the fail.

"Stretch" is done because: hella flush. A fix to a problem that was intentionally created for no reason.

I was just wondering but I didn't know that width was an issue. I was watching a lot of videos on YouTube & therefore posed a question rather than actually doing it

like it was said above stretching is done to fit wider wheels onto the car. IM NOT HATING i do think it looks good in moderation and if it fits your needs for the car. But doing so on an OEM bbs is just dumb. the wheel is too skinny.

Yes, there's definitely a difference between looks good and utterly retarded. I don't dislike the look, but I also know in many cases it serves no other purpose than not rubbing.

Stretching period is a crime against humanity. The entire purpose of fitting wider wheels on a car is to run a wider sized tire.

Why do you want to stretch tires on stock wheels?

You better not say because it looks cool.

Because I love the look of a STI BBS wheel. I still don't see why people are going crazy over a question. I did not know width was an issue so idc.

JourdanWithaU 08-01-2013 06:06 AM

You didn't really answer my question.

So, the you like how the wheel looks. Why do you need to stretch a tire on it?

Because it would look cool if you could stretch the tire on it. Maybe I can do a custom job to get it wider

you CAN stretch a 185 over OE BBS. but as everyone here is telling you, at stock height and offset, completely and utterly pointless. youll just be prone to more damage to your wheels than need be. you only really need to stretch if you got a fatty wide wheel and and need that extra fender clearance. unless ur are running spacers, taht is NOT the issue you are havingt on you sti even stupid slammed. dont do it man. look for replica BBS 18x8.5> and stretch tires on those. but not OE 17x7.5. lol

FYI i cracked one of my wheels due to being slammed, 35 tall sidewalls, cambered, and minor strech 245 on 9.5s one little rock is enough to hit the inner flange.

GL with everythin g

Yeah I'm thinking about getting the "RS" from BBS. But I was just wondering if it could be done.

The LM's are better looking on Subaru's in my opinion. I have the BBS LM Reps and looks amazing :)

Try Linea Corse Lemans, a great replica for half the price and can go up to 9.5 wide.

Brfatal 08-01-2013 11:45 AM

But stick with 18x8.5 because those actually fit, unlike the 18x9.5s. :)

04GG 08-01-2013 03:13 PM

BBS LMs get my nod, but real ones gonna cost you a grip.

Check out STR 601 as well. That's what I have and they're fairly priced.

Here they are on my 2008 WRX Sedan:

If you like the look of the sti BBS and wanna run stretch, check out rotas. Not comparing the two (eyes flame suit nearby) just saying they have several similar wheel designs with wider sizes. As for rim damage due to stretch.. unlikely unless you smash around on them. I ran 215's.on a 9.5 (that's stupid stretch ) around for about a year on some awfully paved roads with no damage whatsoever. Maybe I got lucky. What IS more likely to happen are bead issues, tire wear, and ****ty handling.
