STi in house for measurements

We've come into numerous problems with fitting the STi. We have a new wheel coming in, the SSR GT7, that will fit in 17x7.5 offset 50 and 18x8 offset 51. I'll post specs on the wheel as soon as I get them - I can't even get a picture yet. The "favorites" aren't fitting; SSR Comps, OZ Superleggera, etc.
I appreciate the STi owners' patience and understanding in this saga. This is an extrememly tough fit with huge brakes and high offset. No (or very few) traditional wheel designs work. A new breed of wheels are in the works for these types of applications, the GT7 being among them. I'll post as more info comes through.

I'd rather we get good results than the job be rushed, and I'm sure TireRack doesn't want unhappy customers and/or returns due to something not fitting under suspension load or whatever.
If I were doing it, I'd probably make a big list of wheels and their specs, make some measurements, then cross off the ones that obviously don't fit. Then quickly try them al out, again crossing off the ones that don't fit statically (i.e. they hit the brakes immediately). That leaves a shorter list to try the hard work on. It might be nice for us to see the list of wheels that were crossed off. As Dexter pointed out, they started with the popular wheels people ordered for the WRX and struck out.
I don't see any info on the net about the GT7 -- I'll be anxiously awaiting pictures and specs. Are there any other sizes such as 17x8 available?
I believe people got them on the WRX without any problem, and I'd hope the STi has at least as much room (admittedly this is baseless hope rather than any research). 255's required fender rolling, which I'd prefer not to do. Given the angle of the strut shroud cutting into the wheel well, I'd think 18's would be even more of a problem. Unfortunately there are so many issues involved and wheels and tires are different, so there isn't a nice definative answer.

But can you fit a 245 under the wheel wells without body modification, and without rubbing...?

Ok.... Prodrive PFF-7 in an 18x8, with a 53mm offset will fit a 235/40/18, according to prodrive usa. some of the japanese forged (GC06) use a fitament which is 10mm further outboard, say just under half an inch.
So Dexter, by bringing the wheel inboard, as the PFF offset does, does this allow sufficient fender clearance to put on a 245?

It's too close to call. You're getting close to the fender and the strut. If you have the PFF7, you could get a set of 245/35s and mount one to see if it works.

I do not have a full range of wheels around me to try them out and I am not going to buy wheels just to check if they fit. At the same time I can not understand how people who work with wheels and tires all day long are not able in longer then a month to properly test even one set of high performance wheels. Especially if most wheels are just hitting calipers so there is no need for a long term testing. I appreciate their work but I feel they are not putting their hearts into it.

We only have a new car for a few hours - so we take all the measurements possible and crunch the numbers. We can't test any wheels because none, NONE of our current wheels fit. The two wheels listed are new designs which we are receiving later this summer. Our hearts are quite into it, but were quickly broken upon applying the taken measurements to our current arsenal of wheels.
As you know Rafal, this car is very special. The wheels that fit this car need to be very special as well.

So you are telling me none of the wheels you have for WRX fit Sti?

Even before the car came out, many knew that there were very few wheels that would fit on this car because of the LARGE calipers.
