I had 712s on my car, and I don't think they were worth the money (no matter how cheap they are).

The MXs look so much beefier, but I've never actually ridden on them.

so-3 in certain sizes can be had for a low price of 150$ per corner - discount tire direct or some such.

The grip from the MXs is right up there with the best at any price. I've had them for 4K miles on my 03 WRX Sedan and really like them running the 225 45 17's. They perform great in the rain too, and you have plenty of that on Oahu.

712s i would not put on my car if they were given to me for free, actually not even if someone offered me $100 to use them i would say no.

I have the F1s, and they have held up so well at 10,000 miles I bet they will last me another twenty. Best $160 a tire I have ever spent, and yes I have previously owned a set of SO-3s. Of ALL the components of your car to go cheap on, don't go cheap on oil, tires or gas.

For street tires I agree, the GSD3s are a better deal than the SO3s. But, the Goodyears can't take the heat- literally- of track and autocross use. The tread grooves are too close to perpendicular to high slip angles, and the lack of strength means they roll over and die when they soften up. For just aggressive public road driving though, they're great, and the rain performance (as in, some standing water) is excellent.

Hey, DPG...

Now that you have driven the MX's for a couple of weeks, what do you think about them?

I've had the Kumho Ecsta MX 225 45 17's for four months now.
