Question Shipping wheels?

This question for anyone who have order rims and have them shipped. How was your rims packaged? Were they in boxes or were they protected (i use that term loosely) by cardboard on each side? Did you order the rims and tires mounted already? If so how were they packaged? Where you any of your rims damaged when you recieved the rims?

I bought Rotas from Subydude and they came in boxes and had protective cover over the front of them (almost like a shower cap but it was a cloth type material). No damage and I didnt get them with the tires mounted. Hope that helps.

Well I just got 2 of 4 rims, that i order from subydude with the tires mounted. I am not sure if this is how it is usually shipped. The pics below is how i got the rims. I am still waiting for my other 2 rims from fedex. Why its not here at the same time as these 2 i dont know. Fedex is offically on my $h!t list. Its a long story about why they are on my list. Enough to say I will never deal with Fedex for shipping anything ever again. As you can see the second pic show that there is a chip on one of the spokes and it seems that the cardboard have left some strange markings on it. I can't seem to wipe the markings off at all.

That's an actual scratch, not a mark -- you're seeing bare metal.

Whoever PACKED those wheels is to blame, not who shipped them! That is a pathetic attempt to save money, not a packing job. They should be BOXED in bubble wrap, not strapped with two small pieces of cardboard.

I expected more from someone as highly praised as Subydude. He needs to get bigger boxes, obviously.

I am talking to him right now and we are working something out. He is willing to work with me to fix the problem. I can't say enough about how much great customer service i am getting from him right now.

I just think karma is biting me in the **** right now.

first of... i want to say that greddy5 has some great patience! and he's been a very understanding person in regards to the situation at hand.

meilers - yes, the packaging could be better... and will be... in terms of damages... this is the very first incident we've had w/ this method of packing/shipping... but you are right... there are definite room for improvement.

now that i look more at the wheel damage looks like it might have been damaged before hand and was overlooked when packaging... because we do inspect our wheels before we ship them out.

I have also bought wheels and tires from subydude. They too, came packaged this way. I was surprised at first but realized it a easy way to ship rims and tires. Although, I do think subydude should've of box them, I found myself shipping my stockers the same way. I know that UPS charges a $7.00 handling fee since it's not in a corragated box. FedEx should have a fee similar to UPS. In terms of price, I don't think subydude is saving much, if any shipping this way. It's just easier to ship this way.

One thing I'd like to mention is this. The way subydude packs it has one advantage. The handler (UPS or FedEx) will see them are rims and handle with care (hopefully). Rims and tires packed in a box is just another box to throw around along with thousands of other similar boxes. Subydudes packages are handled more carefully I believe since they are irregular shipments.

Anyone have any more input on the way UPS or FedEX work on the inside? Any former employees?

I don't mean to be hard on Subydude -- now that I look at it, that does seem a pretty practical shipping method when all that is exposed is just the rubber of the tires. Are they shipped with any pressure in them? Inflate them with helium and save the weight!

Perhaps they need more cardboard, or a layer of bubble wrap between the cardboard and the wheel. Obviously boxed completely would be the best solution -- how much more would this cost you or the consumer?

Regardless of how any item is packaged the handler/delivery person has the choice in how they are going to treat packages. In my opinion packages go through to many transit systems, this alone could help contribute to what happens to wheel/parts in delivery. Companies selling the product could produce better policy on shipping items, one example would be optional insurance. This could help with the headaches of dealing with shipping facilities.

My wheels were shipped in the boxes - 2 boxes straped together to make 2 packages. and the two packages got separated during shipping according to UPS's Tracking on there Web Site. Then they were reunited when they got to My house.

Do you think this is a security feature of UPS .. Because who would just steal two wheels. "Well maybe someone with a FWD Honda who wants to make their car look like a fast Drag Car .. LOL"

I finally got my last 2 rims from Fedex ground yesterday. They just dropped them off infront of the garage and didn't even bother to ring the door bell or knock on the door. I am just glad that this whole behind me, now I can enjoy the wheels.

Subydude,
Thanks for helping me out and letting me vent about fedex ground. I appreciated the service that I gotten from you.

Now its time for me to put these rims on my car and enjoy the open road:banana:

I think I can relate some interesting info here. I also have order rims and tires from Subydude. Mine where shipping with the straps and cardboard, but with no scratches. As far as the UPS thing goes, I worked at UPS in Maumee, OH (3rd largest UPS place in the world, 2million packages/day went through there) as a sorter for 6 months and a supervisor for 1 1/2 years. If I were to see a package like that I would have rolled it down the belts/slides just to see how fast I could get it going. I can also say that this is the norm for a place like that. Not much care is taken with the packages. They used to say "treat the package like it something going to your grandmother." I hate my grandma! J/K looking back on it I should have handled them differently, but hey I was a kid.

The moral of the story is, think twice when packing something that will be shipped via fedex/UPS. If you think you have enough packaging to protect it, think again.

Yeah, we also used to see how far we could throw the package and still get it to the right belt.

One more thing. Whatever you do, no matter how expensive it is or rare or priceless, never never neverNEVER write fragile on the package. Writing fragile is a gaurantee that it will be broken when it reaches the other end.
