An 18x7 with offset 42 would likely fit with a 215 width tire on the wagon (be ready to roll rear fender or at least remove rubber liner) and on the sedan it should fit with 215 width tires no problem and possible rear roll/liner removal with 225 width tires.

On the bearings - the lower the offset, the more stress on the bearings. There's no number to give in terms of how long they'll last. A lot of people run lower offsets and accept the anticipated loss of bearing longevity. Personally, I prefer to play by the rules and keep the offset up where it should be.
