Question rims/tires for my 03 rex

OK i have been reading for a while on rim sizes and tire sizes.. i want to know for my 2003 wrx sedan.. without having to screw with my car in anyway except having to take off old rims/tires and put new ones on..

What is the biggest tire i can go for a 17x7 and a 17x7.5 rim
What is a safe offset to go with.. there are tons of rim places onlne but not many post offset sizes for the rims.. i have been told no lower than +48 since normal offset for the 16's are +53

i do not want to order rim/tire package and then put em on and find out they rub and be stuck with rims i cant do crap with..

please help a guy out.. it woudl be greatly appreciated..

thanks in advance

To be safe, offset should sit between 48 and 52mm on a 7" or 7.5" wide wheel. Stick with the 225 width tires - looks and works well. Some squeeze a 235 but it opens the door to possible rubbing; especially if you lower the car.

I know some people running 235s and 245s but they have not lowered the car yet. I would recommend at most a 225.

ok was checkin out a site they had 17x7 with +40 offset with a 205/40/17 wheel as a package.. now i called the place and they said no rubing or screwing up spedo.. then i called subaru and they told me if i want to do 17's have to be a +46 offset and 215/45/17 now i am assuming they told me this to make me buy their stuff but i am not lookin to spend 1600 on rims and tires.. so woudl a 205/40/17 be ok on a +42 or what??

or was the tire place tryign to make a sale..??

205/40-17 won't rub on a Miata either - and represents about a 6% change in speedometer readings. That is NOT the right size for a WRX. On 17" wheels there are two to focus on: 215/45-17 and 225/45-17.
