Hey need some opinions here. I know how we all love this ~
I have an N/A '05 OBS. So, I do have concerns about 'unsprung weight'. I have found a smoking good price on new 18x7.5 Rota Sub Zeros (lightest Rotas made and the 18" I have found are 18.2lbs) in Royal Silver (silver center/polished lip).
Most applications have shown a 215x40x18 tire. A direct +2 application would show a 215x35x18 to be the proper tire. Not real thrilled with gearing higher because of the taller 40 aspect... or the (I would suppose) extra weight from the larger tire.
The question is this. Does the ride quality just suck with 35's and that is why most go to the 40's??? These will be on GR-2's with Swift springs, for what it's worth. But this is really a fitment question on the proper tire for the job!
Thanks.
PS: Anyone know where you can find what each tire weighs? Since I went through so much trouble to keep the rims as light as possible. I would think tire brands are all over the map as well. Any ideas?

The 215-40-18 tire would be 24.77", whereas the 215-35-18 would be 23.93", you are looking at a 3.5% differences, so your speedo will be off by that much. What was is original tire/rim size?

Already plan on going with 215 40's if I go 18's. Little bit too leary of pot holes with 35's. Even though the lower gearing might help overcome the 'rotating mass' of the 18's?

FWIW, I had 18x7.5 ADR rims on my WRX with 225/40r18 and I hit a pothole and took a chunk out of one and cracked another. I'd go at least 40 series, as you said, because the 35's will have that much more of a chance at cracking your rim if you do hit one.
