Pirelli vs. Kumho Steel Cage Deathmatch
Pirelli vs. Kumho Steel Cage Deathmatch
My stock RE92s are more than a little dead and it's time for them to go. I managed to sell some old hardware today and have $500 to play with. I need a year round tire that can cope with flash floods, lows below 0F, some snow but more slush, the occasional gravel fire road, and getting beat on as often as I can arrange. I have narrowed the field down to the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S and the Kumho ASX. The reason it's those two is that the Pirelli's are what I'd prefer, but the Kumho's are literally half the price.
Are the Pirelli's twice as good? Are they worth twice as much? If I got the Pirelli's, they're all I could get, but if I got the Kumho's, I could afford a RSB and endlinks as well....
Opinions?

I have PZero Neros on my 05 STi. I went to tahoe many times on those tires. They did ok in the snow. I think there are probably better off road snow tires out there. But........as a street tire very good traction. And I am not saying they are bad in the snow, just could be better. But for an all around tire they are pretty good. I have had mine on for about 27000 miles now and its time for new tires. I beat the **** out of them.

The ASX is a good all weather tire. I have had them for about a year now and there is little noticeable wear on them. Rotated as required, and always check pressure.
I've been a buyer of Kumho's for a while now. Used the Supra Ecsta while I was in Japan and loved the price and the quality of the tire.
Had the Kumho MX's on the wagon when I first got it, but they were already used up, then replaced them with the ASX's. I have no complaints with the tire in the wet. They are very dependable in my opinion.
Check the reviews for WRX owners in Tirerack.com's web site. It helped convince me to go with the ASX when I decided to go with an all season.
