Offset advice

My friend is about to pick up a set of Gram Lights 57s at a really good price. Only problem is that they have an offset of 40+, which is a no-no on a GC8 WRX. Could this be balanced out if he were to use a 5-8mm wheel spacer? In my mind, it should work, but I want to get a second on this from somebody who messes with wheels more than I do. Thanks.

Nevermind. I just took him to look at the wheels, and he doesn't like them because they have a chrome lip around a gold wheel. Knucklehead.
