new tires needed for stock rim
I currently have 205/55R16 BFG KDW on my stock 02 WRX rims. I love those tires and want something similar... the reason I'm not going with them again is because they are a little expensive and i've got a new baby coming very soon (money's tight).
I'd like something that will perform the same or very similar to the BFG KDW (very important for wet road traction) and that it will hold up to my constant track abuse (drag, auto-x, track days...etc.) but not to expensive... tire racks got the KDW for about 120 or so (that's where I got my current set) but that's a bit much at the moment...
which brand/style do you recommend me going with that I will be satisfied with?!

Falken Azenis are very good tires however they are NOT on tirerack and the shipping from the mainland just for the tires would be $200+ definately out of my price range!
Though I would love to have them!

I'm assuming you are in HI since you said mainland. Discount Tires has them right now for $89/piece and they have free shipping. Linky Linky

Welcome to the wonderful world of someone that lives in paradise... the price quote that they gave me for shipping 4 tires to me is $236 via 2nd day air... tirerack only charges me $60 and i get it in the same time!
Thanks again,

Consider the Bridgestone Potenza RE750s in 225/50/16. It's what I just installed and I can tell you the car handles like a dream. Wet traction is excellent too. I paid $500 for a set of 4 at Costco a few weeks ago (they had a $60 off deal at the time
)
If they're too expensive, go for Falken FK451 instead. They are more well-rounded than the Azenis.

has anyone had any experience with Yokohama AVS dB S2 (225/50/16)...I want to keep the stock wheels but I'm also looking for a wet/all season tire that performs well. Tire rack lists them at $103 per tire, which is pretty reasonable. I figured with a wider tire, traction and handling should be increased greatly over the stock RE90's. Any ideas?

Although they're cheaper and supposedly lower end, I hear that the Yokohama AVS ES100's perform better for us than their big brother dB S2's. And for that kinda of money you should look at the Falken FK451's.
Plus sizing on the stock wheel makes a huge difference, especially if you put on a nicer tire than the Rarely Effective 92's.
