Lousy tires on 2004 Forester

I am one of the lucky ones to own a new 2004 Turbo Forester, It is great except the tires.
The Forester's tires are
Yokohama Geolander G900 P215/60 R16 94H.
In normal driving the steering response and cornering are poor. The sidewalls are weak and the tread is soft. They feel like driving on jello. [I have heard that they only last about 25,000 miles too].
I'm considering changing to
Bridgestone Turanza LS-V 225/50R16 92V - this is a V rate tire so the sidewall is stiffer and at a 50 or 55 ratio it is shorter.
This is the V rated version of the tire that some other Forester
owners have [LS-H]. The tread should also be a harder sports car like compound.
Some of these tires are rated and discussed on www.tirerack.com. It seems that Steering response and cornering stability are good expressions of my issue.
On tirerack there are a mass of good comments on the Turanza tire. As far as I can tell everyone on "tirerack" hates the geolander 900 like on mine.
Has anyone had good luck switching to a beter handling, cornering tire? Such as a lower profile or V rated one?
Also what model Geolanders were put on earlier model Foresters?
[I do not need snow capable tires]

Just get some Dunlop SP5000's. They will last forever and have a ton more grip than the Geolanders in all areas. I'd even shoot for a 225 width tire with the Forester cause it can fit that wide of a tire just fine.
But if you really really want some grip and not much in the way of off-roading type situations, look at something like a Bridgestone S03, Khumo MX, or tires of that sort...

I replaced the factory tires with Toyo TPT V rated tires
225/55 16R V94. These totally transformed the whole vehicle so that it handles great.
Going to 55 series only changed the speedometer by 1.5% in theory and 1mph at 65mph in practice. [tested to GPS]
Those Geolander tires have really amazingly thin sidewalls. I have them dismounted and you can feel how soft they are.
I really think others should consider this change. With good tires the XT drive much more like the WRX turbo I test drove.
Subaru should be ashamed to put those geolander tires on an otherwise great vehicle. In the volumes they buy tires you'd think that about $20 more per vehicle could really impress the customers with the great handling that is hidden by the G900s.

My wife's 2003 Forester XS has Yoko Geolanders as well.
You forgot the neat part where they squeal like Starsky & Hutch on any cornering speed above 20 mph!!
Supremely lousy tires.
I gotta see if my old WRX gold P1's will look not-too-ugly on her dark red Forester... Then she'll have S-03's! (Look out world!!)
