good tire size for stock rim?
On my wagon. Going the cheaper way and just upgrading the tires. and going with swaybars instead of rims for now. Want a lower profile tire then the stock 50. Will a 205/40/16 fit on the stock rim well or would a 45 be better?
thanks

Stock on my 02 wagon are 205/55R16's. If you go 45 or 40 it makes the tire diameter smaller so the speedometer will be off, and the wheel well "gap" will be increased. Why don't you think about 225/50 R 16's? The tires will not have a smaller sidewall, ie, look flatter, but they will have larger tread width by alot.
Kill,
You generally don't want to just go with a shorter tire - unless you're going wider as well because of the very important issue of preserving load capacity, which is closely related to the size of a tire's air chamber. I'd go with the 225/50 size on the stock WRX rims - perfect diameter with a bit more width. It's also a popular size so there are lots of tires to choose from.

I had a similar question about going with a lower profile tire. I wanted to lower my car but stay in Stock class for Solo-2. If I'm not using them on road I don't care about the speedo accuracy or appearance, and I don't think I care about load ratings because I'll have high pressure in them. So it seemed I'd get a lower center of gravity, slightly faster acceleration, and a stiffer tire, which should give some handling benefits. Is this theory wrong?
