Good snow tire for Tahoe this season?

I want to put a snow rated tire on my stock rims for the ski season. I'll be Tahoe bound as much as possible. What's a good tire for a good price. I'd like to just be able to walk into a place and have them mount them. But, I'm also open to ordering the tires if needed.

Proxe 4's are great for the dollar for an all around tire.

I have the Hankook Icebears. They sure work better than my autoX tires!
And the price a couple yrs ago was good.

Get real snow tires... All-Season tires may not be good enough, especially on ice.

Check out this thread from Nasioc... hope it'll help.

Ive owned the Michelin Alpins and Hankook w404 on my old wrx wagon. They both had good performance and you wont really go wrong with any snow tire on an awd car, get the best deal you can.

On a side note: be sure to take them off after each snow trip - they will wear very fast! A few days is ok but dont drive them as a daily driver in the bay area. I got lazy and just left them on the whole winter, like Nov - March and basically ruined the tires.

Right now I have a pair of winter wheels with Avon Tech M550 all seasons. Used them last season for a few Tahoe trips and they are just ok..didnt inspire confidence in the ice but got me through a mini storm. I sure do miss having a dedicated snow tire.

Agree. I have the same tires on my STi and they handle great in the snow.
