BFG KDW vs Bridgestone Re-01R or 050APP?

i HAVE to buy new tires this week...06 STi.

those are my three choices....live in cali bay area no snow and i have a buttonwillow event coming up...but driving to and from with the same tires

i really like the stock 070s but i HATE the tread wear....so thats why im considering the BFGs......but for performance?? not sure

i ran S-03s on my other cars but they dont make em anymore i need something like that for the STi

I absolutely love the RE-01R. I use them as my auto-cross tire, but not as my daily driver tire. The treadwear rating is the same as the stock 070s, so unfortunately they may wear too quickly for your liking.

yeah the re01r has a softer compound than the others even thought the TW is the same...so they will wear out faster.

first time ive had to buy for this car so its hard.

worried about performance of the 050aPP as far as handling is concerned.
worried about the 750s too...*sigh*

Yeah, any tire with decent handling will wear quickly. There will always be a tradeoff point at which you'll have to decide to go performance or treadlife.

But, if you liked the S-03, the RE-01-R is supposedly the spiritual successor. I never drove on S-03s on the track (but I've ridden in cars with them on) and I must say the RE-01-R is a better performing tire.

Still, I can't comment on treadlife since I've only had them since July and I only race on them. For what its worth, another friend of mine races on the RE-01-R and uses them as his street tires. They seem to be lasting quite a while. He ran the whole season + daily driving (when he drives the STi) and still has more than half the tread depth left. He's planning on running next season on them as well.

The only warning I have is, make sure you've put about 50 miles or so on the tires before you try to push them. They are really greasy right out of the box.

I can vouch for those RE01Rs. I autocrossed them on a BMW 325i during a storm and they were fantastic in terms of performance. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the treadlife left something to be desired.

I'd pass on the RE750s for track, but they are nice for daily driving (especially when the weather is inclement).

The KDW is not that sticky. The sticky one is the KD. I would still say RE01 though

Natalie:

I drive twisty hwy 49 twice daily; I know every curve by heart & know how fast/slow I can take each corner.

Seeing that the 070's came with the car, I'll use those as the benchmark.
As long as the road was dry, the 070's were great; stuck to the road very well, provided very good feedback to what the road was telling the tires.
Ride was harsh, but not wife-annoyingly so.

Treadwear was 10,430 miles.

Next set were the ****ty P Zero N'ero.
Very mushy ride, low traction. Pretty good in the rain.

Treadwear was ~15k.

I'm now running the BFG KDW's. To me, they provide 95% of the traction & feedback, 100% the same in ride quality, and I'm hoping much better rain traction.

I choose these because my not so silent business partner drives for a living & has had several sets on his Corvette, STis, & 350z.
That was good enough for me.

Obviously, there's stickier tires, but ....

I USE to be a lover of the BFG KDW's until i drove the car hard enough and learned more about my car.... then i realized that those tires are not as good as people may think. the reason why i'd ever get them again is just because it LOOKS cool.

I am literally in LOVE with the RE-01R that i'm using right now. Been to 3 track events so far, driven daily for 9XXX miles so far, and it still has HELLA tread life left. I am running daily with -4 degrees of camber front and -2.8 back and 0 toe all around. tire still doing great!

I'm going to be at that buttonwillow event too, so i guess i'll see you there. in case you werent sure who this is, it's Henry from Mach III. Jay should remember me since i was the one that gave Joe a ride down to check out his corolla while it was still at blacktrax

RE-01R, FTW, I've been using them for 6 months as daily driver/auto-x tires, ask Paul at DB Tuned, I beat my car, LOVe the ride, low noise and as to my limited tire experiance so far the greatest feedback and limit control of any tire I've owned, 1 vote for re-01r!!

i think it's really up to how much power and suspension your car has. i feel that wider is only better if you can move it or hold up to it. otherwise, the 225 will be more than enough. they run kinda wider than what it's listed in comparason to other tires. (my 265/35/18 were wider than some dulop 275/35/18)
