whats your price range, I have Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712's. Even after a few thousand miles I'm unsure of them, they seem to be inconsistint. Sometimes I have plenty of grip sometimes it slide before I expect it. But if you give a better idea of how much you are looking to spend, you might get a better idea of what to get.
oh yeah, what kind of weather do you get in South Dakota, thats a big issue in choosing tires.

What kind of driving do you do? How much were you looking to spend? What size (you mentioned new tires, but you didn't say if you were getting new wheels either)? Are you going to keep the same tires on year round? Describe your local climate. Are you going to race the car? (If so, what kind of racing & how often?)

we do need a little more info, however if you're going with a summer ONLY tire, the Falken Azenis simply can't be beat for the money.
If you're planning on running them year round, I have the Dunlop FM901 - they grip like glue in the dry, yet still have EXCELLENT water treading ability and wet traction. They were $134/tire mounted and balanced in size 225/45/17.

The Toyo Proxes is not inexpensive. My summer tires are Yokohama AVS ES100s, and the Toyos are more than twice the price. I have been really happy with the Yokos, and they're only a few bucks more than the Kumhos.

i would rather have re-92s than 712s, the only thing going for 712s is that they last a long time. they have no grip, they suck, even for the price

712's are way old news.
Ecsta MX's are new news.
TireRack has 205/55-16 Kumho MX's for $88, and 225/50-16's for $104, and 225/45-17's for $120.
Isat cheap enough?
The MX's are some of the best tires I've driven on, and I've got ~17k miles on mine and I drive hard and I can see getting another 10k out of 'em.

well, that is why i love them, they last a long time, and they grip pretty well for me...guess it depends on how hard you drive, no can do for me with my family in the rear seat

Don't get cheap when it comes to your tires! The tire is the only part of your car that actually touches the road therfore it is the one area one should definitely NOT get cheap about. I've always wondered when people spend thousands of dollars (not saying you did) on mods then get some cheap, crappy tire.

I can agree with the above info generally. My favorite INEXPENSIVE tire choices for the WRX are theYokahama AVS ES100 and the Sumitomo HTR ZII. Don't leave out the Yokahama Parada Spec 2 either.
In my current situation I'd go with the Paradas, even though they are a bit gawdy looking and a smidgen noiser than the others.
