I bought a set of AXIS 18x7.5 Rims for my 05 STI.
The wheels are incredibly nice. However, i have had nothing but problems with the fitment of these wheels.

I started out with a set of michelin pilot ps2 (235). All 4 wheels ground on the sideskirt and on the driver side rear wheel, the skirt actually will cut 3-5 mm into the sidewall of the tire.

I switched down to 225's.. apparently the smallest 18" size for hte pilot ps2's.
I am still having the same problem..

so the question is, what rims can i put on this car and drive the car in a manner in which it is designed to be driven.

By the way.. if you have a similar car, avoid the axis wheels even though they are listed in the fitment guide for the vehicle.

I am looking for black or gunmetal wheels with a silver/polished lip. preferably 5 larger spokes, but i am willing to look at anything that will fit on the car.
I appreciate all the feedback i get and need to find a solution as soon as possible for safety reason and because the shop that sold me the wheel may be willing to credit me and replace the wheels.

man..you are tripping. I had axis reverbs.....18x8.5 with 235/40/18s. no problem.

 

if i had a camera with me.. id take a picture of the sidewalls of my tires for you.. i guess if you only drive in a straight line or park it when going into corners.. youll never have a problem..

no disrespect intended.. but i can assure you that im not doing naything abnormal with the car and yet there is a definate safety hazard.

the tires are 225/40zr18

another note: i love the rims.. i would od most anything to make them work on the car.
this doesnt seem like its going to be possible.. so i really need some advice on some other wheels.

 

You're failing to mention 2 very important bits of info.

1. What style Axis rims did you buy?

2. What is the offset?

Sounds like the offset of the wheel is too low.

 

The wheel are:
Axis Reverb 18x7.5. The offset on the wheels is ~35+
The same size in the axis/subaru fitment guide.

The offset is definately too low..
forgive me for saying this.. but i knew this when i came in.

What im looking for is recommendations for replacement wheels that will fit on the car that have most of the same characteristics of the axis wheels which i really do like otherwise.

Eveyrone has told me these wheels do not fit..

Nobody has suggested any other wheels.
I feel like im asking a dumb question..
id just like some recommendations for other wheels.. and not for everyone to tell me the wheels are wrong..

im sorry for being snippy.. i asked this earlier on this afternoon.. i need to have an answer by the end of the day hopefully to work with the shop i bought the wheels from.
all day and not one recommendation for a different set of wheels.

 

Where did you buy them and do they have a website? If you give a link to a sight we would have something to pick from.

 

this is a subaru imprezza forum.. Im relying on the intelligence and experience of other subaru sti owners who may have had similar experiences or success in finding good aftermarket wheels. you dont think ive checked out what the shop had available to them..
the answer is everything.. they can order from anyone anywhere. all i have to do is find some wheels that i like that will fit on the car.
but i already spent about 4-5 months searching for wheels that were supposed to fit on my car ( a 2005 Subaru sti ) that i liked at different shops before ..
that lead me to the axis reverbs

i need recommendations from people who know something that i cant just spend 5 minutes to search in a catalog.
wheels are hard to find for the sti.. there is a reason.. but since this board is made for and by sti owners. as well as other subaru models.. youd think someone might have bought wheels at sometime in history.. and had success with it...

 

If you did research you really suck at it since you ended up with a wheel with a +35mm offset. You don't need to own a STI to know what wheels will fit you just need to use your brain so I guess you're screwed. How are people going to help you pick a wheel when they don't know what wheels to choose from? I know a lot about wheel sizes and I could have helped you but since you're such an a$$hole **** you. I hope you get screwed and have to keep the wheels.

had i not already come to that conclusion.. i would not be here asking for advice.
i bought the car new.. and didnt know what i was gettin ginto in terms of wheels.
i looked for months and months not only for wheels that would fit.. but ones that i liked. i found a very small selection. im sure there are wheels that i missed in my searches.

Picking the wrong wheel isn't the reason I called you an a$$hole. The quote above is the reason. Your post seemed to imply that since I'm not an "intelligent STI owner" I can't help you. The last sentence is also quite snotty.


You're looking at this all wrong. You need to know what offset and width work well with the STI, not what type of wheel and that's why I asked you what the offset was. With this info you can pick a wheel that is to your liking.


You didn't tell us what wheels you had to choose from so I asked the next question. My first 2 posts were not intended to make you look stupid. I wanted to know what wheels you could get from your vendor so I could look at what they had and give you some suggestions. I can honestly say I was just trying to help in my first 2 posts.

BTW, I'm a fool? When I did my research I was able to find a wheel that worked on my car. You spent months and ended up with +35mm.

 

AXIS is retarded when it comes to wheel fitment. i ordered my wheels directly through them and they told me that i needed +35 offset for my 18x8.5 reverbs (the same wheels that were on dlouie's car). Being a newb to subies when i first bought the car i threw em on not knowing that they would stick out a little. I ran 225/40/18 on them. They rubbed a little bit in the rear but after i rolled the fender it was alright.

NEVER TRUST AXIS'S WHEEL FITMENT!!!!! Youre better off estimating it yourself.

sell the wheels to someone with an evo. +35 offset is good for evo's.

btw, im not sure why you downgraded and got 7.5's?????

we went round and round in circles i felt like you werent even reading my posts. I got frustrated because i was in a time crunch to find a solution.

If you want more detail.. i can tell you that when i was originally shopping for wheels.. i tried wheels varying from +40 offset to +48.. none of those wheels fit as the spokes rubbed against my front calipers. so there is more than just offset to take into account when buying wheels for this car. that is the purpose of the fitment guide which was wrong in this case. When i finalyl decided on the axis reverbs.. i didnt becuase they were a +35 offset.. but because they were supposed to be tested.. they were supposed to fit.. and it was documented by sources that should know what they were talking about. that didnt turn out to be the case.

the car is a stock 2005 Subaru STI. if i knew the offset, id pretty much already have my answer.. like i said before.. the size doesnt matter provided the wheels fit on the car.. and what i was looknig for was some examples of aftermarket wheels people had put on this car. that is why i was frustrated when you kept asking me over and over what offset.

I wanted examples of what worked. What i had to choose from? The shop i went to cna order wheels from anyplace.. I just wanted to quickly find a set that i could replace it with.. Right now.. what i have isnt exactly safe.

I did understand your question. I only asked you three questions in 2 posts and I only asked these questions 1 time not multiple times. Take another look at my posts and you will see that I never asked the same question twice.

When I asked about the offset you're running I was trying to find out what you knew about offset. If someone purchases a wheel with the wrong offset I will try to explain what a person needs to do to pick the right offset. I actually don't think people are stupid for buying wheels with the wrong offset, I just said that since it seemed like you you were unappreciative to me when I was willing to take some time to help you.

I asked what model you purchased so I could get an idea of what you could afford.

I asked about the selection we had to choose from so we could avoid picking something that your vendor couldn't get. I didn't know he could get anything you wanted.

You're saying that I'm wasting your time with these questions. I'm asking them so I don't have to waste my time looking at wheels that you either can't afford or wheels that you can't get through your vendor. IMO, my time is more important since I was spending my time trying to help you.

There is no universal offset for a car. When you go with wider wheels and tires you need to change the offset to avoid rubbing. A 7.5" wheel will require a different offset than a 8.5" wheel.

Believe what you want and know that I would have been happy to spend my time researching things that you should have researched yourself in the first place. But since you came off all pissy I had to spend my time explaining why I asked you certain questions.

This is getting silly and I'm tired of going back and fourth bickering at each other. If you're still having problems understanding why I asked you the questions I asked and how many times I asked them I really don't care.

I think most rational people would have been able to see tha ti wasnt asking for a lesson on offsets.. i already know i got bad offsets.. I was asking if you or anyone else here hd some wheels that you liked on your 2005 STI.. something that you have tried yourself.

I did end up getting an answer for my question.. and all it took was for someone to read my responses and then kindly reply with a picture and a link to a subaru specialty site that had a list of wheels that had been actually tested on the car.. It was also a wheel I liked. no thanks to you.

If you are going to try to help someone .. help them with thier problem.. dont try to school them or make them feel bad or inferior.
