Avon Tech M550 A/S
Avon Tech M550 A/S
I am in the market for some new 225/45/17 tires and these caught my eye. They seem to have a good price, and great wet/dry performance ratings on tire rack. Does anyone have any experience with this tire? I was also looking into the BF Goodrich G-force Sport, but they seem to get aweful reviews on wet pavement. I drive aggressivly at times and need a tire that is good on dry pavement as well as wet pavement. What is a good option that is under $100 per tire on tire rack? Thanks.

If you guys are looking for cheaper high performance tires, I think your best bet will be the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212. The Kumho's often get complaints about soft sidewalls.
I plan on getting a set of the Hankooks as soon as the winter is over. Here's a place w/ good prices on them:

I have the M550's on my car right now...I love em. I've only heard a little bit of noise from them and thats just because my road is a rough road and if I take a bumpy corner too fast they talk a wee bit...but thats it. The M550's also scored higher in all areas on the Tirerack.com online survey

They scored higher for their catergory. The M500 is superior to the M550 A/S in all respects.
The M500's may not have the highest absolute grip, but they are predictable, progressive and give great hydro-planing resistance. I have used them for about 8000 miles, with no noticable wear, and they have only gotten better. Plus with the price makes them a very attractive option.

the 550's I are great at pretty much all seasons. Here in Chicago, we get a decent amount of snow so All-Seasons are pretty much the choice for my Subaru (its an 05 RS) Since its nothing turbocharged or super-de-duper fast.
I'd still go for the Pirelli's even though they are a little bit less in all the other catagories. The only place where it is rated higher is in steering response and handling. This is due to its stiffer sidewall. So if you like to make fast and aggressive turns, the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S are better. They give almost the same traction as the Avons.

I really like the AVON Tech M500's, except for the wear. Very good dry grip, work great in the rain and are very predictable. I wore out my first set in less than 6,000 miles. Second set might make it to 10,000 miles.
