In the 225/45-17 size, it would be easier to list which tires don't have the protector. Which ones are you considering?

The ES100 has the rim protector. That's the only one of the four that I carry and have access to detailed specs.

The RE070 is the stock tire on the STi - it is a near-R compound street tire with tremendous dry traction. Naturally, it suffers a bit in treadlife. It's wet traction and resistance to hydroplaning are exceeded by the S-03 Pole Position, but dry traction is exceeded by few to no street tires.
