on which kind of car?

sedans can fit up to 245s with rolled fenders and can even fit 255s with cut fenders

wagons are a little smaller and i don't know about the gc's

I ran 245/40/17 Kuhmo 712s without rolling the fenders and never rubbed(pic 1), though these were on 7.5" wide SDRs, then I ran 225/40/18s on these Stich 18X8s (pic2)that did rub in the back since they had a funky offset, so I rolled them out a bit, and it was fine. after that I ran 245/40/17 Khumo V700 on 17X8 Rota Torques and never rubbed and also had so much room in back wouldnt have rubbed even if they were'nt rolled.

Don't the STi and WRX take different offsets?

I know the '05 is a different animal, but I mean '02-04 WRX and the '04 STi

nope, everything is the exact same under there for the 02-04 wrx and STI. Yeah the 05 has a 10mm wider rear track and some funky tacked on plastic flare thingys, I really dont know why they increased the rear track, I actually increased my front track 24mm, this is an old autoX trick to increase turn-in response.

my tires and alignment settings are just as I want them, Im running 12mm spacers so I could clear my Brembos, the increase in turn-in response was just an incidental benefit.

i run 235/40/17 toyo ra1's on my MY00 RS. you can check out the pics in the subydude gallery.
look for a gc8 with 17x8 steel gray torques. i rolled the fenders and added a spacer in the rear
to avoid rubbing on the struts (JIC coilovers). i'm also running some aggressive camber in the rear (-2 degrees). no rubbing.

although the rim still wouldn't hit without the spacer, but it would be very close, a millimeter ga. so maybe the tire would rub due to tire deflection.

I am rolling on 235/40s on my 17x8" Torques. I have closed the fender gap and have no rubbing nor a need to roll my fenders...

Wait, what suspension are you running?

I had 225 S0-3's on my '03 wagon, running V7 STi pinks - I rubbed but I was way out of alignment, I don't know if it would rub today. I do know that there is a place that rolls fenders with a heat gun in Sacto or you can do what Alex (Imprezer) did, not a bad idea, and cut the fender, it is very clean.

He offered to do mine once but when I asked him about it later he wasn't interested. "

I have 225/50 on 16" slips and am lowered 1-1.5" and don't have any rubbing. Infact, I can fit my fingers between the tires and fender wall.
