All-Season Tire Choice
I'm in the market for some new tires for my 2002 WRX sedan. I want a tire that's going to give me better dry performance than the RE92's (pretty much every tire out there), but I live in Colorado so I need a tire that is going to be good in the snow as well as in the dry.
I'm willing to sacrifice some dry performance to gain some in the snow.
I also want to get wider tires, so I was looking at 225/50/16 for my stock wheels.
I would also like them to last me for a while, as I don't plan on upgrading my wheels anytime soon.
I don't want to have to run seperate tires in the summer and winter.
I've been doing some research (via tirerack.com), and have narrowed the search down to the Continental Extreme Contact and the Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S.
Has anyone had any experiences with either of these tires that can tell me what the snow performance is like with them? I know the P Zero Nero's are going to be better in the dry, but how are they in the snow?
Probably the most important question is: Will these tires perform better than the RE92's in the snow? If both of them will do better than the RE92's, then the Pirelli's are the way to go, because I didn't mind the snow traction of the 92's.
Thanks!

I just upgraded my all-season tires last Saturday to Toyo Proxes 4, but I was researching on different options for the past two or three weeks. Here were my other choices:
1) Pirelli PZero Nero
2) Kumho ASX
3) Falken Ziex ZE-512
4) Continental Extreme Contact
Maybe you should look into the other two I didn't mention as well as the Toyo Proxes 4. People have told me the Falkens do a good job on snow.

I think Dunlop SP5000's are a popular choice amongst scooby owners. I personally run 2 sets of tires and rims. I use the stock ones w/ winter tires and a set of 17" rims w/ wet/dry tires.
Trust me...get the SPSport5000's. They rock in the rain and the snow. I had them on my stock rims and you can hall *** in the rain (not saying do this but you could) with no signs of hydro. AWD helps too

Thanks for the opinions, guys. I ended up going with the Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S in 225/50/16 for my stock wheels. I'm getting them put on today, and taking them on a road trip on Wednesday. I'll let everyone know how they work out.

Great AS Tires for Stock WRX Wheels
I mounted Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (All Season) tires on my stock 2002 WRX Wagon. What a difference these tires have made in ride handling and braking under all conditions (wet or dry)! Tire noise is down, and cornering is much improved. These tire look great too! Tread life should be much better than the Potenzas too.
I used the Kumho Escta 712's in the snow (not on purpose) and got around fine, had no problems. Granted when it was the first time in snow with the tires I drove like a grandma coming down some backcountry mountain roads (steep and twisty) but once on the flats i didn't mind picking up the speed — overall the subaru did fine. Most of my experience driving in snow was in a lifted grand cherokee with Yokohama Geolander MT's and the Suby did fine with the 712's I can imagine any all season tire would do great in the snow. I personally am going to go with the Continental Extreme Contacts for my stockers and I can't wait to go play in the snow w/ them!
