advice on replacement tires for stock 16" WRX wheels

Time to replace the RE92s. I am looking for:

(in order of importance)

decent response and adhesion in dry AND wet

resistance to hydroplaning

decent treadwear rating

quiet running

And on a separate note, are the 98 Impreza RS "gold" 5-spoke wheels the same width and offset as the 2002+ stock wheels? Can these be found? (aside from dealer)

Thanks,

Jim R.

A lot of guys I know are using the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position on their rexes, with good results on the street and road course. These are not inexpensive tires, however. They also like the Falken Azenis for a less expensive alternative, but I don't know how these do in the wet. Neither of these is an all-season tire, but you didn't indicate any snow or ice use.

My father's been a Pirelli driver since his first 911 (he now has a 2002 BMW M3, modded to 345 HP) and he swears by them. I've been VERY interested in the P Zero Nero M&S tires for quite some time... anyone have experience with them? For Pirellis they are a STEAL ($118 for 17-inchers). Unfortunately they do not make them in stock WRX wheel sizes.

I ran into this same problem and ended up going with the Yokohama AVS Decibel II. I LOVE them. Great traction both wet and dry, been fairly good treadwear and the noise isn't bad. I have them on the stock rims of an '02 RS. 205-55-16
