235 tire on a 7.5" rim

i was just bit curious about the fitment of a 235/45/17 tire on a 7.5" rim.
would this cause problems with the integrity of the tire ?
would the tire be more prone to blowing out ?
looked on the tirerack site and rim width range is within spec
235 will fit on a 7.5 - 9" rim
been trying to figure this out for a while .

It works. A little more sidewall bulge but, that's about it. No problems.

If it's a narrow 235, it's okay. If it's a wide 235, like a Falken Azenis RT215 or Potenza S03, it's too small.

You need a 17x8 for that tire, plus you should be running 225/45 or 235/40 or 245/40. The 235/45 is a bit tall for an Imreza.

a little confused , kumho ecsta mx 235/45/17 would not fit due to the height . and not due to the width of the rim vs. the width of tire ?

if that combo doesn't werk , then i guess i will be picked up the advan neova ad07 .
225/45/17 from tirerack .

I wouldn't put them on 17x7.5 wheels, the sidewalls will be pretty flexed. The height probably won't be an issue, it just makes you a tiny bit slower and your speedo/odometer will read low. Why the Advans? 225/45 MXs are better and still not expensive.

heard that the advan' are good , but i guess since this will be my daily driven tire , something a little affordable is the way to go . what would you recommend for an auto-X tire ?

Falken Azenis RT215
Falken Azenis RT615
BFGoodrich G-force KD
Bridgestone Potenza S03
Kumho Ecsta MX

in that order. Some would disagree a little, but if you plan to start at full tread depth, I think that's the way to rank them. All are available in 225/45. If it's your only tire, then the top 3 are the S03, the MX, then the 615 because of wet handling considerations. The 215s and KDs are bad in rain.

will 235/40/17 so3s on 17x8 rub against agx struts w/ springs? i have yoko es100 235/40/17 on right now for about a year. i think it rubbed today for the first time in a year for some reason for a second when i made a tight but slow turn. i was just wondering if the so3 would be wider and rub againts my non-coilover suspension, tia

Angry speedo readings with 235s

I spent at least a hundred miles and repeated testing of my speedo on my 04 Sti last month because I couldn't figure out why everyone drove so fast when I was in my Sti. Basically speedo error is terrible. The stock tires are only ~1/3rd worn. Taking the averagwee of numerous mile timings I come up with these numbers. At a speedo reading of 75 , the car is only traveling at 72.36mph, meaning our speedos read high, 3.6% high to be exact! If I were to go to a larger OD tire, relative to wheel revolutions, the speedo would read lower or more accurately. I haven't calculated how much closer but I suspect that instead of being 2.6 mph off at 75, it would probably only be off 1-1.5 mph now. Any feedback on this topic would be appreciated. I was thinking of going with 235's once stock tires (which I love) wear out because I was hoping this would hel[p a little with the incessant understeer at the track. I know I ideally need a smaller rear sway bar or larger front one, but I'm not looking at keeping this as a track car forever and don't feel like entering mod hell.

All speedos read high from the factory typically. It's illegal for them to read low, and reading high is safer. Also, if you're getting understeer, you want a larger rear sway bar, not smaller. Also try getting an ALK or '05 STi control arm bushing, as it improves your camber curve.

Try them between 36 and 40. See what you like best.

I run 235/45/17 on my '05 STi. I'm thinking of upsizing to 245/45/17. What's wrong with running these tires on an impreza if they don't rub?

I dont like running tires that are too short because thicker sidewalls help absorb bumps. My tires are Michelin PS2s, but my next street tire is probably going to be the 245 Pzero Nero MS.

I know of someone who switched to 225/50 all seasons for a highway tire for the ride...
