It'll be ok, you're just not utilizing the width that you have to work with. I'm running at 17x7 as well with 225/45/17's and I've had no problems with the crappy roads here in Iowa. Hope that helps.

The most common and preferred width I've seen for 7" wide wheels is 215. 225's will fit, but I believe they are more suited to the 7.5" wide wheels.

This is not the truth nor my opinion- just what I've seen around.

205/40-17 does not have the proper load capacity and is too short for the Subaru

CHANGE THE PACKAGE!! Ask this company if you can upgrade to a 215/45 or 225/45. What Luke says is right & truth be told you might want to consider buying wheels from a dealer who is more in tuned w/ what is best for your car, not just his wallet.

BTW - At first I thought you meant 205/50s, which would work, but are kinda expensive...

?

Are you insinuating that I am mentally unwell? That I need to be stuffed into a rubber room & sedated?

If so, then you are wrong, I just get very passionate about work & doing the right thing for customers. I sell tires & I see misinformation passed around all the time (I can't tell you how many times I have heard a customer request plus size tires & '35' series tires, not knowing that the aspect ratio is irrelavent w/o the proper width). I just wish more people in this industry were more honest w/ customers, that's all.

Hmm, I get it now... no wonder you have such helpful info so often in this forum section. I don't think I ever had the chance to thank you for your help in the past. Keep up the good work!

No problem. I view my job as both sales and customer education.
