195 65 15 vs. 205 40 17, rims, lowered, etc, ALIGNMENT
hey what's up?
i have a 95 legacy sedan which is getting lowered 1.25 " on kg/mm's this saturday (wish me luck). my question is i just bought some 17" adr rims too but i have no tires yet (i will be picking up some kumho's from tirerack). they will be 205 40 17 while the tires on my 15" alloys right now are 195 65 15. my first question is will the overall diameter of the stock tire/alloy be about the same as the rim/new tires? see, when i get my car lowered i'm doing an alignment and i was going to put the rims on about 3 weeks after that. i don't want to have to do another alignment. if that's not a close size, can you suggest a size tire that will give me around that same diameter overall? and this may be off topic but do i need an alignment desperately after i lower the car or should i be okay for the three weeks (i drive about 200 mi a week) until i put the rims on then i can get an alignment then? get back to me asap! thanks.

When going to 17" wheels, you should use a 205/45-17 to keep the correct outer diameter. The alignment should be done right away - you might be surprised just how much "play" is in the system. Can make for a pretty dangerous drive.
