05 RS, I"m lost
Hey everyone, I'm looking for wheel and tire sizes to upgrade my 05 RS. I have stock suspension for now but I may lower it a bit in the future. I don't understand wheel/tire lingo, but i want some 17's with a good all season. I don't want to mess up the speedo and odometer so i think i want the setup to be the same overall hight as stock. Help me figure out what combo I can use without rubbing, with the possiblity of new suspension in the future.
Thanks
Joe

if you look at the sticker inside the drivers door you'll see tire size to pressure suggestions.
I beleive stock they recommend 215/45/17.
Check out tirerack.com, they have info on what the numbers mean and the rotational differences that would alter your odometer.
Basically any other tire then the RE92 will make the odo be off by a couple 100ths or something. It is such a small change it makes no difference unless you went with a tire like 225/40/17. Then you would alter your odo significantly.
The first number(225) is the width of the tire. Falken's 225 does NOT equal Pirelli's 225 though.
The second number(45) is a percentage or something of the width, so as the tire width increases, this number should decrease.
The last number(17) is the inner diameter of the tire and what size wheel it will fit.
hope this helps.

Be VERY aware of both tire weight AND rim weight on your normally aspirated RS.
Unsprung/rotaional mass will kill you! Your rim/tire combo if OEM is about 43 LBS!!!
Easy to beat with some care in choosing your combo. I went 17" with a drop to 34.5 lbs per corner. It's as if I picked up 10 HP and it cost no more then making a BAD choice!

ive got 225/45/17 w/ tein s techs on MY05 RS and i dunt rub even with people in the back but if you want to be safe go for 215/45/17 BTW it looks really ugly with that big *** wheel gap in the front so be prepared to drop it soon
I'm going to squeeze some 17x8s on my 05 RS, Volk ce28n (12.5 lbs
) and some 235/40/17 Falkens, or Hankooks. Should be interesting. You can fit whatever you want, just be prepared for spacers, and rolling fenders. Also, like what was mentioned before, weight will make a huge difference. I ran 225/45/17 on 17x7.5 tarmac IIs, and I never had an issue with rubbing. I have STI takeoffs, and STI Tanabe GF210 springs.
