Their tires were probably half decent given the conditions. They weren't exatly driving on dry concrete either which comes into play for many of these.

Two factors seem to be the most common.. 1) Way too much speed for the turn - spinning out or sliding right off the edge into a ditch or into a tree or rock. 2) taking a goofy line through the turn - apexing too soon or just plain hitting the inside or outside of the turn.

Then there was the blatent what the heck are you doing?" driving skills like running over into crap for no apparent reason. Very ammusing.
