Hey I don't want to be a downer but an f430 is an easy 12 second car. Maybe not low 12's but if I run a 12.998 in my STI I'm calling it a twelve second car(but I haven't).

Question Very interesting......

I think the title is very misleading as to whats really going on. In the beginning before the launch, that exhaust note you hear is from the Smart car, or from it's bike engine. Not the F430.
I do give prop's to both drivers tho, but it seems like the Smart car's driver was more of a "driver" than the rich guy in the F430. Although I was not their and am just going by what I watched.

As for the Ferrari's time.... again driver skill come's in to play. I think the F430 could have launched a little better.

I think F430s have launch control so that the driver is not part of the equation.

They run a hell of a lot faster than 13.40s. I ran one on July 4th down a straight on a back road.....he pulled away like I was sitting still. Easy low/mid 12 second machine....

Notice that they aren't running a 1/4 mile...it's 400m if that makes a diff ;-)

400 meters = 0.248548477 miles. It's a little shorter, and the time you're seeing might be including the drivers reaction time which the dragstrip takes out for you. That extra .5-1 second could be the difference you see.

Also, the smart sounded like it had some sort of high rev swap like a bike motor.

Could be. Maybe the Smart had a Hayabusa motor in it. I know there's a car made that has one in it, but I can't remember what it is....

not much of a diff, if 400m = 1200 ft, and a 1/4 mile=1320ft. only 120ft diff.

it's the road man, no traction... and not many ppl metion that different place gives different time... and believe me, F430 is FAST, my boss owned one and i drove it...for some reason it felt faster than my 420 awhp STI but never get to race one side by side..

i have seem those 500hp+ impreza in Taiwan could only run 14's and 13's on public test..
