I went through this in person. As a passenger... the worse place to be when you can see it coming.
We were traveling 70mph, the on coming car was traveling about the same on a coastal road in Italy (Positano Coast). We were a bit offset on impact. My driver plowed way wide and hit the other car head on. We did not flip... both cars stayed on their tires.
I was in a new Alfa sedan and the 2nd car (the innocent party) was in a C-Class MBZ.
We all (4 people) walked away alive! I broke 3 ribs and had cuts where my arm and shoulder blew out the window on my door. My driver had only cuts and bruises. The passenger in the other car broke his nose. The driver broke an arm. That's it.
Yes, God is surely Italian! Or wears an air bag for a party hat...
The sound is absolutely insane. An explosion I can STILL hear.
Then... silence, with small bits falling to the pavement, drips of liquid tapping the road and the sound of hissing coolant.
I also highsided at 150mph on a Ducati, getting spit off over a guardrail and landing 600ft at the bottom of a cliff... but that is another story.
Ahh... isn't life lovely?
