I think its the wastegate, cause when he does the half drift ... spins out and lights em up going the other way, if you listen closely you can actually hear the bov when hes feathering the throttle.

^^^ u need both really on a turbo car... what a wastegate does is it lets extra exhasut gasses out on the exhast side of the turbo so that you won't build boost forever when you have your foot down. the bov is just a dump valve on the intake side of the turbo, it relives pressure when the intake is closed keeping the unneed boost/pruesser working back to the turbo...because boost going back to the turbo is bad...

Actually, that sound is compressor surge. That's what it sounds like when the boost doesn't blow off.

so if its compressor surge is bad and the bov is causing it why would they leave it on?

It's a Greddy Type-R bov. You can change the sound it makes with disks. kinda like a tunable muffler

+1. It is a Greddy BOV. My buddy has a 97 Supra with a 74trim turbo and a Greddy BOV. It makes that exact same sound on low boost. He can ajust it by swapping out springs inside the BOV.

The best sound.

So what does one need for his WRX to sound like that?
