Cool GC8s.

Actually those fireballs are coming from an anti-lag setup. Basically it keeps the engine firing even when your are off the throttle, which keeps the turbo spinning and removes turbo-lag. The Subaru WRC car has it and you can hear it very distinctly when they let off the throttle.

That's why the WRC engines cost bazillions.
And the hydro-electric, semi-automatic transmission cost tribazillions.
Beyond, strengthening the entire powertrain/drivetrain, I imagine that the max-power AFR would be astronomical so tuning would be well beyond the capability of the everyday street tuner.
Then add to that the fact that the EGTs would tend to be much, much higher than what any of us have seen. I'm fairly certain that all of the WRC teams use water injection, but that in itself probably costs as much as my car is worth.
Either Phil Grabow or Nathan Kofahl from TurboXS said that they toyed with the thought of adding ALS capability to the UTEC as opposed to the Launch Control it currently has, but the temps they were seeing at the compressor outlet increased too much too quickly.
WRC cars have full-length ceramic-coated exhausts and a dozen other "supporting" design changes to allow anti-lag to work without destroying the car; the cars are totally different from the headers back compared to any normal car (and most race cars). Check some WRC sites for details on the full build-up of these engines, the technology (but not so much the costs, actually) that goes into them is amazing.
You can get a "used" WRC car for about $750,000, so they are no where near the millions category.
Anti-lag works like this: when you back off the throttle and shift into neutral, the fuel keeps flowing at a set rate and the ECU supresses ignition -- it turns off the spark plugs. The air/fuel mixture is pulled into the engine by the momentum of the engine itself, then pumped into the exhaust without being burned. By the time the A/F mixture gets into the up-pipe or turbo, the heat of the exhaust piping sets off the fuel and you get an explosion right in the exhaust tubing itself (a backfire). Fire off enough backfires and you get a large volume of exhaust gas, which keeps the turbo spinning even though the engine is producing little or no exhaust out of the cylinders themselves. Burning raw fuel inside your headers and up-pipe would indeed produce some nasty EGTs and cost you an engine in a few short weeks; that's why WRC cars are allowed to do a complete rebuild on such a short schedule.

Anti-lag system and shooting flames out of the exhaust pipes is not the same thing. Anyone can toss a fireball out of the tailpipe now and then. It can eb easily done by a slight mistune. Just add a ton of fuel first before the rev limit in the proper area of your a/f table and given that you can shift right at the redline, you will shoot a fireball out of the tailpipe. You also need catless up and downpipe and straight through muffler.
Anti-lag system is a completely different thing.
