doesn't the car have to qualify for a certain mpg or something to be in the cars program?

yeah I think what jourdan was saying it had to get 22mpg or more for him to do it and the wrx was 21mpg.

Indeed, to qualify for the program. The "clunker" must get an EPA est. 18MPG or lower and the new car must get 22MPG or higher. If the improvement in fuel economy is better than 10MPG the "clunker" qualifies for $4,500. If the difference is less than 10MPG the "clunker" qualifies for $3,500. Also the buyer must either purchase or lease (5 year min.) a new car

The Van got 18, the 2.5i gets 22. Difference of 4MPG, so it worked, and I got $3,500 for the van. I wanted to get a WRX, but it gets 21MPG, so it didn't qualify, and it is a little bit out of my price range anyway.

I got ~26mpg yesterday on the drive there and back from BAM the highest I've ever got I think

too bad the new 08/09 wrx's went down in mpg.. I was a bit dissapointed but they made up for it with an extra gallon in the tank
