2.5 STI short block kit now works with WRX heads!
With the help of our engine builder, Crawford Performance, we can now get the new 2.5 STI block to work with USDM WRX heads. We keep the STi turbo crank and rods and use special forged Crawford pistons. These Crawford pistons keep the proper compression ratios that the wrx heads need to operate effectively. Without specially designed pistons…the STI block will not work with the wrx heads.
With that in mind, we have been toying around with offering a Phase 1 STI short block for those wrx owners who want a little more umph (displacement) to go with their current setup.
So we are just trying to get an idea how many people out there would like to see this product become a reality.

We are not locked into a price yet. With one run of pistons the prototype is a little expensive. We hope to get about 10 people interested so that we may buy in bulk. This would lower the cost an estimated several hundred dollars. Hopefully we can keep the whole kit around $3000. That price would reflect the new 2.5 STi block, disassembly and installation of the new Crawford pistons.

JohnQGearhead - yes the pistons are ceramic coated. As for the price of the short block. Well, that depends on which dealer, rep you get your parts from. Right now, this short block is not an easy piece to get.

Good news. I spent my whole holiday weekend with Crawford Performance. I know I didn't get any vacation but I think you will all appreciate the outcome of our endless nights and countless hours of labor.
Needless to say we will be dynoing some interesting things in the next week or so.
