No such thing as a 96 or 97 RS, they were only made from 98-01.
You aren't going to find one for that price unless it is in very bad shape, i.e. wrecked or blown motor/trans.
For 5K you might find an older high-mileage Impreza L.
Check over on NASIOC in the Cars for Sale Classifieds, lots of cars FS there. You can also try the Tri-State forum in NASIOC, much more activity than here and there are some cars for sale in the regional classifieds.
