Winter Tires for Metroplex?
Hi, Newbie to this forum and just bought my 05 STI. When looking at the stock Bridgestones, I am wondering whether these are OK for driving in the metroplex during winter? If this was the land of ice and snow they would be definite no no's, but I am wondering about use during our winter conditions. What do all you north texas folks think? If you have changed to all seasons for winter, what rims/tires are you running?
Thanks,
Doug

What are Winter Tires?
Doug,
Congrats on the new STi purchase. I have nothing but car envy. We get the occational sleet and ice here, but nothing that would warrent getting all-weather or snow tires. I have run Nitto 555s on my MY02 since 3 weeks after getting the car in Nov 01. We had some pretty bad ice storm last winter, and I was able to get around town no problem. Infact, I became designated driver because no one else had a 4 door and AWD. As I recall, the WORST case of starting a incline I may have had to start in second. We have a much longer and more friendly driving season here, and it would hardly warrent a 2nd set of rubber.

Thanks Chris. I am asking this question because from my perspective, these Bridgestone 070s on the new STIs look almost like a streetable track tire, with minimum tread pattern. If these had a tread pattern like the summer Nitto 555s, I wouldn't be so concerned.
