HID convertions on the streets?
Hey TXIC,
I am about to put HID's in my Prodrive lights and I have been torn between how high I should go with the bulb heat.
I really like what I see with the 12000K kits, however has anyone had issue with these ragarding cops or visibility?
I really like the looks of the purple'ish but would prefer to keep the cops out of my hair.
Any recomendations?

Noted,
However, it's illegal to change to HID, but because there are Subaru's with factory HID lights... it's a hard case to prove. The legality of it doesn't really bother me, it's the looks.
Basically 12000K too much is what I'm asking.
thanks for the input, JDE

i would say 12k is too much, but not because of the look of it, i'm looking at it from the performance of the unit. the lighting in this "high temp" kit's like that just isn't as good as the 5-6k range kits. all the expensive european cars (BMW, Audi, M-B, Porsche, etc) use bulbs in that range, the reason that they appear to have the color that they do is because you're generally viewing them off-angle. if you were to look at them head on then they would appear very white, with possibly a hint of blue. hope this helps.

Yes, I have seen a spectrum chart showing where "white" light lays ( cerca 4500-5000) and where the purple/white ( 10000-12000)... it's bordering on ultra violet, ha!
From a performance standpoint, switching to HID-period is going to be a performance increase from normal halogens. However, I am concerned with crossing into annoying or even gaughty...
Thanks

The problem you run into when you go higher in kelvin is the amount of glare, glare usually happens when HID bulbs are being housed in an environment not designed for it, the arc of HID lights is different than the arc of a halogen bulb, thus creating more glare the brighter the bulb, Glare is basically what people see when driving towards you, if you want to avoid cops, id stay under 8000k
if you notice at about 6000K+ glare increases, but beam pattern and visibilty does not, so its a lil "brighter" to go with a colder bulb as to not attract attention from blinded cops, i myself run an 8000K setup and have not had any problems, hope that helps
