It looks like $10M taxpayer money will go to revamp the active Catholic missions in California.
Why is Babs Boxer supporting this bill, given her typical Socialist interpretation of the 1st Amendment?

Because they are historical landmarks. This is nothing new. There are cases of private homes that are declared as historical landmarks that are still funded my the state. Take for example some of the historical homes in the washington DC area. Some still have families living in them, yet when major renovations and restoration projects are neccessary, tax payers flip the bill. They do this to insure that no matter who owns the landmark, the landmark is well taken care of for future generations. If we are expected to flip the bill for other privatly owned historical structures why would these missions be any different?

For the same reason that "under God" should be removed from the Pledge.
Also, since most/some of the missions are still active Catholic churches, why not have the Vatican pay for the repairs?

Will all the billions of dollars the Catholic church takes in every year, they pay no taxes... you'd think Jesus himself would foot the bill on this one just to maintain his lavish lifestyle?
