What about MLK?

Sen. Obama feels it neccesary to call into question Lincolns motives as an emancipator.

"I cannot swallow whole the view of Lincoln as the Great Emancipator," Obama said. "As a law professor and civil rights lawyer and as an African-American, I am fully aware of his limited views on race. Anyone who actually reads the Emancipation Proclamation knows it was more a military document than a clarion call for justice."

He doesn' t however feel brave enough to call into question MLKs plagiarism or adultery.
Does this bother anyone else, and do you think it will even register in the national media?

Has he said anything about MLK at all? Outside of this artilce maybe? Because the article you link to is about some interview that deals only with Lincoln, and I would not expect someone who is asked about Abe Lincoln to reply with such a verbose and broad response as to call MLK into the picture at all.

If Obama has previously praised MLK publically without at least alluding to his short comings, then I can see your point and agree that Obama is 'selectively seeing' history. I believe everyone does this, however, and since MLK's flaws had little to do with racial or political issues, maybe this is the reason they are discussed less than Lincolns questionable treatment of African Americans in his personal life (which is at odds to his publicly known role as the great emancipator).

My point is that I doubt anyone will bring up Clintons affairs in the context of his foreign policy or his handling of the economy. So why would Obama bring up MLK's affairs and personal flaws in a discussion of racial equality where they are out of context?

Barak Obama sounds like the name of a star wars character.

Sorry, I'm not from Il. so I don't know too much about him.

It would bother me if I cared about his opinion The only reason why dems and liberals listen to him is because he's a "well-spoken" and intelligent black senator. As if that’s somehow a shocker.

But yeah, I don't think MLK would apply unless he was talking specifically about him. I'm sure Obama is just jealous because Lincoln has been with more black women.

You're both right, but it just annoyed me when I saw it. I had a class at the UofI fall semester and out of 200 people I was the only one who didn't vote for him.
