U.S. to pay for illegal aliens' emergency care

Actually it's your money.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7795429

I should revoke my citizenship just so I don't have to pay $350 a month out of my own pocket

I really don't know what to say about this one.

Paying their emergency care can be seen as a preventive measure. You never know what they’re bringing with them from their homeland. If we deny them medical attention, then we run the risk of getting others infected or even worst, having the virus mutate into something more powerful.

OR you could say...

Why the hell do I have to pay for illegal aliens care. I mean they shouldn't be here in the first place. Why are we supporting them and in a way inviting more people over. "Oh yea, hey come to America. Oh don't worry if you're sick, they will take care of you.."
Gee that's all we need.

Federal money is a drop in the bucket

This money is compensation from the federal government to partially offset the BILLIONS of dollars our local hospitals lose every year to take care of illegal aliens. Don't think that this money is all that we're spending. Hospitals are closing every day because of the enormous losses they're seeing as a result of illegal immigration. This is just a way to hopefully buy them some time, so they can treat more illegals. Here are some facts:

According to the article:
The states receiving the highest amounts in the current fiscal year are California, $70.8 million; Texas, $46 million; Arizona, $45 million; and New York, $12.25 million.

A 2002 study of all 24 U.S. counties bordering Mexico found that hospitals provided $190 million of uncompensated emergency medical care to undocumented immigrants in the year 2000. www.bordercounties.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={C90385BE-27F1-4E75-98F1-450DD3608069}

Some experts have estimated that the nationwide emergency medical care obligation due to illegal aliens is $1.45 billion per year. Data from analysis performed by MTG Corporation for the Office of Senator Jon Kyl

In 1994, California paid for 74,987 deliveries to illegal alien mothers, at a total cost of $215.2 million (an average of $2,842 per delivery). Illegal alien mothers accounted for 36 percent of all Medi-Cal funded births in California that year.

I'd be willing to bet this figure has gone up drastically in the last 10 years.

This whole topic leads to the costs of illegal immigration on our hospitals, schools, welfare systems, etc.

Nobody has the ***** to defend our taxpayers due to fear of being called a racist.

The reason the healthcare loss estimates are in "billions" is that the industry is fixing prices to pad the insurance companies' incomes. Healthcare is broken to the core.

Exactly. Tom Tancredo speaks up about the illegal immigration problem and he's called "xenphobic" and "racist" by members of his own party. Here's some more facts:

Analysis of the latest Census data indicates that California's illegal immigrant population is costing the state's taxpayers more than $10.5 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration. Even if the estimated tax contributions of illegal immigrant workers are subtracted, net outlays still amount to nearly $9 billion per year. The annual fiscal burden from those three areas of state expenditures amounts to about $1,183 per household headed by a native-born resident. The estimated total costs of illegal immigration to the state's taxpayers would be considerably higher if other cost areas such as special English instruction, school feeding programs, or welfare benefits for American workers displaced by illegal alien workers were added into the equation.

Analysis of the latest Census data indicates that Arizona's illegal immigrant population is costing the state's taxpayers about $1.3 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration. Even if the estimated tax contributions of illegal immigrant workers are subtracted, net outlays still amount to more than $1 billion per year. The annual fiscal burden borne by Arizonans amounts to more than $700 per household headed by a native-born resident.

If these things don't **** you off, you must be dead. You can fax your Senators and Congressman for free at www.numbersusa.com and let them know how you feel about this problem. I do it all the time.

I'm sure there's some truth to this also. But the fact that U.S. hospitals shell out millions, if not billions of dollars every year for illegal alien healthcare is a huge factor.

Yeah.

To add-on to helladumb's post...

I think another part of the problem is that if we decided to take direction on the issue the latino community would be up in arms. As if, their being untouched for 15+yrs suddenly makes them immune to repercussions and somehow worthy of free emergency care. The longer we wait the harder it will be.

I mean if they don't kick them out of the country and don't deny emergency care (we know they won’t), then there shouldn't be any reason to not have socialized emergency healthcare for American citizens at the Government's expense too. I mean that should have been a priority over this in the first place, right?! A hospital won't deny emergency care to a citizen without insurance but you can bet your *** Uncle Sam won't be there to take the invoice down the road.

Instead our loved ones are stuck with a ridiculous health plan with C- doctors once they have a mild heart attack at age 50. Then when they reach 80 they have hell to pay all over again with much more cost due to more complications! And this is if you had health coverage from the very start! It’s completely backwards.

Wink

If we wait long enough, the standard of living here and in Mexico will eventually even out and then we'll stop getting imigration all together. Then we can merge the Canadian, American, and Mexican governments under the name "The Socialist Republic of North America", and everyone will be happy. Then we can get to f***ing so we'll all be the same color and noone will know who was from Mexico, Canada, or the US.

I hope this is a "liberal" enough response to stop the countdown...
