a family of five making $16,200 a year doesn't even pay $3,511 in federal income taxes, and now they're going to get an ADDITIONAL $3511 back?
they should have done this in october to keep things consistent with the last time **** like this went down.
Between those changes and the addition of the Make Work Pay credit, the Tax Policy Center calculates that a family of five making $16,200 a year (assuming each spouse makes $8,100) would get an additional $3,511 as a result of the stimulus bill. That same family would get an extra $1,651 if they made $32,000 a year.
they should have done this in october to keep things consistent with the last time **** like this went down.

gee, i wonder if, in the name of fairness, they will get rid of the $110k phase out of the child tax credit. i haven't seen a dime of that since my kid was born...
Child tax credit: Up to $18 billion. Temporary increase in the amount of the child tax-credit that would be refundable.

wait a minute...
so that means that the credits are available for tax years 2009 and 2010? this extra money won't even make it into the hands of consumers for approx 14~16 months... dumb.
even if it would make a difference, which it didn't last time Bush did it, it'll be too little too late.
edit: apparently the fed gubment expects the average stiff to be smart enough to know how to adjust their withholdings so that the "make work pay" tax credit gets spread out over their 2009 payroll... damn, that extra $38 a paycheck is gonna ROCK!
it's gonna get spent at micky-d's and starbucks, it ain't gonna do **** for anyone, and we'll be suffering as a country as a result for quite some time.

The full credit would be available for 2009 and 2010, but is limited to those making $75,000 or less ($150,000 or less for workers filing joint returns).
