Oakland Riots
I figured I would start a thread about the riots last night in Oakland. One might already exist, so if there is, feel free to delete this one. What are your thoughts about what happened in Oakland last night?
I think that this whole thing is a joke. People are using the tragedy that occurred on New Years Eve to vandalize and destroy our streets. Our police officers have better things to do than deal with a bunch of hoodlums that have nothing better to do than destroy local businesses and trash people's cars.
I know what happened shouldn't have happened, and that police officer will be investigated, and will receive the proper punishment if punishment is due. Our right to freedom of speech does not give us the right to terrorize a city. I think the police should have placed more people under arrest from the get go, as soon as vandalism began to occur.
I am tired of these people acting like a bunch of animals, looking for any excuse to act like fools. I hope that those that were arrested last night get the book thrown at them.

Yea, they're just adding fuel to the fire and not helping the situation, but its the cops faults, that's what happens when the people sworn to protect us do shady **** like that, people go crazy. Like that BART pig who just so happened to resign after shooting a tied up man.

Could someone fill me in on what happened New Years Eve?
Rioting is never a way to get **** done. Some people just don't know the difference between rioting and protesting. However, vandalizing cars in a terrorizing mob is nothing new for Oakland

Read the story about it, is this different from the other BART shooting? Or is this the same one?
The report I said claims the officer "May have mistaken his pistol for his taser." Hmm, black metal pistol vs yellow plastic taser......

same one. I think they are using the taser gun as a scape goat. I think in reality, he just made a mistake, and a VERY bad one at that. You can tell from his reaction after the shooting, but there is no mistaking a taser for a pistol. He had his weapon drawn for too long to call it a mix up.

Um...last time I checked India was no longer under British rule.
South Africa is no longer apartheid.
And if you think Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had no effect on the Civil Rights movement in this country then I would suggest you re-read your history books.

And not knowing how to read. At least the article I read said that it started out as protesting (people laying belly down on the cement, yada yada yada) but then some of the protesters turned violent
