Nationstates

Anyone on here has ever heard or played Nationstates?

Its an intriguing twist on the usual national strategy game. You create a nation, flag, motto, national animal, etc. and then you are given 8 questions. Your answer to these questions will decide what sort of nation you have. Be VERY careful how you answer the questions, as it can have adverse affects on your nation.

The game is played largely by college students, and as such their politics tends to overpower things (for instance the UN in the game just passed a Hemp production bill).

The site is here: www.nationstates.net

What sort of country do you get?

I really haven't made a nation yet but will later...

I did it for a while. If you join the UN you gradually turn into a socialist EU type nation. Stay out of the UN and you can do your own thing.

Lol. Question, what nations overdue dues amounts to half of all dues owed to the UN?

The Armed Republic of Deyes is a tiny, economically powerful nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The small government devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Commerce receiving almost no funds by comparison. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 5%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Cheese Exports, Automobile Manufacturing, and Furniture Restoration industries.

Crime is a serious problem. Deyes's national animal is the ninja and its currency is the bronze ********.

HAHAHAHAHA! I love this game, is it supposed to be funny?

Its funny how in my nation there are no private charitable organizations, and since we're not socialists all of the poor starve.

This thing is very skewed. The questionaire lacks the "No opinion" response. The questions themselves are very polarizing... not how you answer, but the questions themselves. I chose "compassionate" and "theocracy", and I was handed a theocratic democracy. What the hell is that? I did not want my country to be democractic, but the makers of this "game" obviously cannot imagine a compassionate society that is not democratic.

Interesting, but a bit short-sighted.

I seriously doubt its meant to be anything other than funny. Everything you choose turns your country into an ideological caricature.

Yeah this thing is fun. I have a small country in Canada with superb civil rights, excellent political freedom, and a developing economy...a 'Scandinavian Liberal Paradise' if you would hahahaha.

Today's issue: How narrow-minded is the moron who made this game?

The Issue

The latest "Harry Potter" book to hit schools across Ekklessia has stirred up the greatest controversy yet.
The Debate

1. "I quite enjoyed the book, until I got to the part where Harry summons evil demons to do his bidding," says religious leader Violet Nagasawa. "Now that's just wrong. We need to restore some sense to this debate, by which I mean we should remove this book from the shelves, salt it thoroughly, and burn it."
[Accept]

2. Teachers union President Jennifer Longfellow says, "Come on, the book is fantasy! And it's a damn good read. I'd like the government to issue a statement of support for our teachers and librarians, so kids can enjoy good books without interference from religious wackos, like Christians."
[Accept]

"like Christians". What the gibblin' gibblets?

So basically, to disagree with legislating morality I have to be against Christianity? What's the point of playing this game if you're locked into someone elses narrow-minded view of the world?

"The United States of Memimo is a huge, socially progressive nation, renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 273 million live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs. Memimo's national animal is the dragon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation"

Funnay!
