Mexico making drugs legal?

http://studenttravel.about.com/b/a/257478.htm
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12535896/

The bill makes possession of 25 milligrams of heroin, a fifth of an ounce of marijuana, five grams of opium, 2.2 pounds of peyote, two ecstasy pills or half a gram of cocaine legal.
Wait. 2.2lbs? WTF?

Sounds like there is going to be a LOT of spring break tourism in good ol Me-hee-co soon. lol

We should trade our drug and immigration laws for Mexico's. Well, at least for pot.

I think this new law is to prevent the arrest of American college students going to Mexico for clubing trips...

Actually its aimed at keeping the corrupt local cops from extorting money out of pot smoking, line sniffing tourist college students. However they can still expect to be shaken down for urinating in pulic.

Why would they want that? Are you saying it's a legitimate attempt to curb corruption?

They want that because drugs are part of the reason kids go to Mexico to party...so if they are more lenient, more kids will come. Pretty simple really...make Mexico a drug playground and every adolescent in America will want to go there...

So there is an economic agenda. I was hoping it was a true virtuous attemt to reduce corruption.

That makes perfect sense.
