Joke

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat and was for distribution of all wealth. She felt deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican which she expressed openly.

One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and more welfare programs. In the middle of her heartfelt diatribe based upon the lectures she had from her far left professors at her school, he stopped her and asked her pointblank, how she was doing in school.

She answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA and let him know that it was tough to maintain. That she had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying. That she was taking a more difficult curriculum.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Mary?"

She replied, "Mary is just getting by," she continued, "all she has is barelya 2.0 GPA," adding, "and all she takes are easy classes and she never studies." But to explain further she continued emotionally, "But Mary is so very popular on campus; college for her is a blast, she goes to all the parties all thetime and very often doesn't even show up for classes because she is too hung over."

Her father then asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your 4.0 GPA and give it to her friend who only had a 2.0?" He continued, "That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair, equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I worked really hard for mine, I did without and Mary has done little or nothing; she played while I worked real hard!"

Her father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

And if the daughter's school had been mired in racial oppression and systematic class-warfare, with one side favored to get the 4.0, then that would be a good way to deal with it.

If you have studied US history over the last 100 years, it goes without saying that some people easily float to the top and others are always forced to the bottom. That is the way this machine works.

That's because some people have a thing called work ethic which makes them a valuable asset to an organization and they are rewarded by that organization for both their efforts and also to retain their skills within said organization.

So then let's just tax the s*** out of people who inherited their welth (didn't work for it), and not tax those who 'worked themselves to the top' as much...oh wait, republicans and conservatives don't like that either...lame analogy.

So now we're going to discuss why communism doesn't work? Or is it socialism?

Oh ok. So basically live the "you can't take suitcases to heaven with you" lifestyle. When you think you're about to go spend like a mad man and **** the will your kids since the gov't will take it anyway. That makes tons of sense. People work their whole lives to leave something behind for their children. It's a good thing our founding fathers didn't have that attitude. "hey guys don't worry about that Constitution and fighting the British, we've only got a few years left anyway and after that who gives a **** what happens." Great plan.

This is an offshoot of my 'golden rule' credo...

You know, it doesn't do me much good to worry about others. You know what I'm saying, I worry about those who're unfortunate; as far as what I can feasibly do, but I don't worry about those whose station in life is much greater than mine but didn't work for it. I did that in college when I found myself resenting the majority of ****ers there driving their MBs, BMWs, Lexus'... I gave up that whole 'resenting the haves'.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I read that this particular analogy showed how if one works hard, they should not have to share their wealth/grades. But a lot of times people do NOT work hard for their wealth, so the analogy is not very complete. The thread was taking on a 'I worked hard so I desearve' feel, and I wanted to point out that many people who are against socialism and liberal tax laws have NOT worked hard for their wealth.

I don't resent the haves; I just think if the argument against liberal tax laws is 'If you work for it, you keep it' then a bunch of people who never worked at all get a huge advantage.
